Biography

Michael Kane (b. Dublin, Ireland, 1935) studied at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin.

 

Selected solo shows include Rubicon Gallery, Dublin (2010, 2008, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2002, 2001); Vanguard Gallery, Cork (2009); Solstice Arts Centre, Navan Co. Meath (2008); Norman Villa Gallery, Galway (2007, 2005); and Art Space Gallery, London (2002, 2001, 2000). The Royal Hibernian Academy's Gallagher Gallery held a major retrospective of his work in 1995. Kane’s work was included in eva International, 2010, Limerick City; ‘From Landscape’, Crawford Municipal Art Gallery, Cork (2006); and ‘SIAR 50, 50 years of the collection of CIAS’, Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin (2006). Kane was commissioned by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon to produce work for the first in a series of touring school shows entitled ‘The School Show’ (1986).

 

His work is held in the collections of the Abbey Theatre; Allied Irish Banks; Aer Lingus; Bank of Ireland; Contemporary Irish Art Society; Coras Iompair Éireann; The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon; Government Buildings, Dublin; Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, Dublin; Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin; Municipal Gallery, Tampere, Finland; the National Self-Portrait Collection at the University of Limerick; and N.I.B. Capital Bank, London.

Michael Kane (b. 1935) studied at the National College of Art and Design and the Graphic Print Studio. He was one of the organisers of the Independent Artists’ exhibition and one of the earliest members of Aosdána. He has exhibited extensively across Ireland including Irish Museum of Modern Art, the RHA and Kilkenny Arts Festival. Aside from the Arts Council collection his work can also be found in The Hugh Lane and the National Self-Portrait Collection at the University of Limerick.
