Roy Johnston (b. 1936 in Pomeroy, Co Tyrone) studied at the Belfast College of Art.
Johnston exhibited at both the Oireachtas exhibitions and Irish Exhibition of Living Art on numerous occasions. He also exhibited at SADE, Crawford Art Gallery, Cork (1987, 1982); and ROSC ’71. A retrospective of his work was held in Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane and later in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Gallery in Belfast (1985). Oliver Dowling Gallery held a solo exhibition of his work in 1992.
Apart from The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, Johnston’s work is included in all major Irish public collections such as The Ulster Museum, Belfast; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin and the collections of the British and Northern Irish Arts Councils.
