Parr, Martin

Martin Parr (b. Epsom, Surrey, UK, 1952) studied photography at Manchester Polytechnic.

In 2002 a large retrospective of Martin Parr’s work was initiated by the Barbican Art Gallery and the National Media Museum. This show toured Europe for the next 5 years. Other major solo shows include Pekin Fine Arts, Beijing, China (2012); Haus de Kunst, Mucich (2008); and Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (2007). He has been included in group exhibitions at The National Gallery, London (2012); The Pompidou Centre, Paris (2010, 2005); Tate Modern, London (2008, 2003); and Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2005). Parr curated the Brighton Photo Biennial that took place in 2010. Parr was commissioned by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon to produce work for the school touring exhibition ‘A Special Place’ (1988).

His work is also held in the collection of the Arts Council of Great Britain; Museum for Fotokunst, Odense, Denmark; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Philadelphia Museum of Art; Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; British Council, London; Australian National Gallery; Tate Modern, London; Irish Museum of Modern Art among many other museum and public collections.
