Armstrong, Arthur
Arthur Armstrong (b. Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, and d. 1996) studied architecture at Queen's University Belfast and Belfast College of Art.
His solo exhibitions took place in Tom Caldwell Gallery, Dublin (1975); Galerie Avignon, Madrid (1974); David Hendriks Gallery, Dublin (1972); and in Gibraltar (1968), among others. Group exhibitions included the Kreisler Gallery in Madrid (1977); Leicester Gallery in London (1958); and Watergate Gallery in Washington (1972). He became a member of Aosdána in 1981, the same year that a retrospective exhibition of his work from 1950 to 1980 was held by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
Apart from The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon's collection, his paintings are held in private and public collections throughout the world.
