Dixon, James

James Dixon b. Tory Island, Ireland, 1887 and d. 1970, was a fisherman by trade and took up painting late in life.

Dixon exhibited in the New Gallery (1966) and The Dawson Gallery (1968), both solo shows, and was included in ROSC ’80. IMMA held an exhibition of works by Dixon and Alfred Wallis in 1999.

Dixon’s work is included in the public collections of Arts Councils of Northern Ireland and Ireland; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; and Ulster Museum, Belfast.
