Reid, Nano

Nano Reid b. Drogheda, Ireland in 1905 and d.1981, studied first under Harry Clarke at the Dublin Metropolitan School and later in Paris and London.

In 1950, with Nora McGuiness, Nano Reid represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale. In 1974, the Arts Council and the Northern Ireland Arts Council held a major retrospective of Reid's artworks at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane and Ulster Museum, Belfast (1975). More recently she showed with Gerard Dillon at Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda (2009) and with Camille Souter at Droichead Arts Centre, Drogheda and Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar (1999). Major group shows in her lifetime included the Exhibition of Contemporary Irish Art in Aberystwyth (1953), and the Mostra Internazionale di Bianco e Nero in Lugano (1956), the Guggenheim International Award Exhibition in New York (1960) and the ‘Twelve Irish Painters’ show in New York (1963).

Her work is included in various public and private collections including Crawford Art Gallery, Cork; Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; Trinity College Dublin; Santa Barbara Museum California; Irish Institute, New York; Model Niland, Sligo and The Arts Council of Ireland.
