Maguire, Brian

Biography

Brian Maguire (b. Dublin, Ireland, 1951).

 

A major exhibition of his work took place at the Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane and travelled to the Contemporary Art Museum, Houston, Texas in 2000 and the Crawford Art Gallery, Cork in 2001. Other solo exhibitions include EXSpace, Mexico City (2013); Kerlin Gallery, Dublin (2011, 2008); Mermaid Arts Centre, Wicklow (2010); and White Box, New York (2002). Maguire represented Ireland at the 1998 Sao Paulo Biennial and the Beijing Biennale in 2008. Maguire was commissioned by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon to produce work for the first in a series of touring school shows entitled ‘The School Show’ (1986).

 

Among the many collections, both public and private, in which he is represented are those of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Texas, the Alvar Aalto Museum, Finland, the Wolverhampton Arts + Museum, England, the Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, the Gemeentemuseum, The Hague, Netherlands and the Collection of Ed & Nancy Kienholz.
