Biography

Born in India, Maria Simonds-Gooding studied at the National College of Art, Dublin, Le Centre de Peinture, Bruxelles and Bath Academy of Art, Corsham. She was elected a member of Aosdána in 1981 and was elected full membership of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2012. She lives and works in Co. Kerry

Maria Simonds-Gooding (b. India, 1939) studied at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, le Centre de Peinture, Bruxelles; and Bath Academy of Art, Corsham.

Solo shows include Taylor Galleries, Dublin (2004); The Graphic Studio Gallery, Dublin (2000); The Vangard Gallery, Cork (2000); The Lemonstreet Gallery, Dublin (2000); and Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork, Works from 1965-1985 (1985). Simonds-Gooding exhibits Regularly at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin and has had other group shows at The Chester Beatty Library, Dublin (2002); The Lavitt Gallery, Cork (2002); and The London Original Print Fair at the Royal Academy of Arts, London (1995-2000); among others. She was commissioned by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon to produce work for the first in a series of touring school shows entitled ‘The School Show’ (1986).

She’s represented in many public and private collections, including those of The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon; Irish Museum of Modern Art; The Albuquerque Museum, New Mexico; Crawford Municipal Art Gallery, Cork; Israel Museum, Jerusalem; The Hirshhorn Museum, Washington DC; The National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi; The Saatchi Collection, London; and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
