Maher, Alice

Biography

Alice Maher (b. Tipperary, Ireland, 1956) studied at the University of Limerick, the Crawford College of Art, Cork, University of Ulster and San Francisco Art Institute. 

 

She represented Ireland in the 22nd São Paolo Bienal. Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin held a retrospective of her work in 2012. Solo exhibitions of her work include the David Nolan Gallery, New York (2011, 2008); Purdy Hicks Gallery, London (2011); Galway Arts Centre (2010); Green on Red Gallery (2009); Brighton and Hove Museums (2007); and Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin (2007). Recent group exhibitions include ‘The Family in British Art’, Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery; ‘The Surreal in Irish Art’, F.E. McWilliam Gallery & Studio; ‘Poetry Beyond Text’, Visual Research Centre Dundee Contemporary Arts (all 2011); and ‘Altered States’,  Clonmel Museum, Ballina Arts Centre, Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin, (2009).
