Nolan, Isabel

‘Quiet Please’ by Isabel Nolan hovers in a dream like state between sleep and full consciousness. The short animation is interspersed with pencil drawings of a sleeping woman and a dog where forest like forms drift into each other and text miraculously appears posing questions.

Isabel Nolan (b. Dublin, Ireland, 1974) studied at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology and National College of Art and Design, Dublin.

Nolan’s solo exhibitions include presentations at the Musée d’art moderne de Saint Etienne (2012); The Model, Sligo (2011); Gallery Side 2, Tokyo (2010); Kerlin Gallery, Dublin (2009, 2007); Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2008); Project Arts Centre, Dublin (2005); Goethe Institut, Dublin (2003); and Proposition Gallery, Belfast, (1998). She represented Ireland at the 2005 Venice Biennale in a group exhibition, 'Ireland at Venice 2005', which was subsequently presented at the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Cork, in 2006. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, recently including ‘King Rat’, Project Arts Centre, Dublin (2010);  ‘Coalesce: Happen-stance’, Smart, Amsterdam (2009); ‘Through the Lens: New Media Art from Ireland’, Beijing Art Museum of the Imperial City (2008); and  ‘Order, Desire, Light’, Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin (2008). 

Nolan’s work is held in the collections of Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon; Dundalk Urban District Council; Dundalk Institute of Technology; Kildare Co. Council and various private collections in Europe and USA.
