Souter, Camille
Camille Souter b. Northampton, England 1929, d. 2023.
She took up painting in the 1950s and exhibited in all the major Irish group shows, including the Irish Exhibition of Living Art (1957-73); Independent Artists, Dublin (1960-79); ‘Twelve Irish Painters’, New York (1963); Oireachtas Exhibition (1970-78); and ‘The Delighted Eye’, which toured Ireland and London (1980). The Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin and the Ulster Museum, Belfast together presented a retrospective of her work in 1980 and RHA Dublin later held a retrospective of Souter’s work in 2001.
Her work is held in the collections of Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; Ulster Museum, Belfast; Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork; Limerick City Gallery of Art (includes National Collection of Contemporary Drawing); AIB (Allied Irish Banks) and the Arts Council of Ireland.
