Coleman, James
James Coleman (b. Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, 1941) studied at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, and at University College, Dublin. He was conferred with the degree of Doctor of Fine Arts honoriscausa by the National University of Ireland at NUI Galway. He represented Ireland in the 1973 Paris Biennale.
More recently he has had solo exhibitions at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain (2012); Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin (2011); Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin (2009); and Project Arts Centre, Dublin (2009). Selected group exhibitions include Dublin Contemporary 2011; Catherine Bastide, Brussels, Belgium (2010); Fundacion Santander Central Hispano, Madrid, Spain (2009); and Documenta 12, Kassel, Germany (2007).
Coleman is represented in the collections of S.M.A.K. - Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst; GeFondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris; Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris; Museum Ludwig, Cologne; Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin; Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, Barcelona and Kunstmuseum Luzern among others, including The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
