Stuart, Imogen
Imogen Stuart (b. Berlin, Germany, 1927. d. Dublin, 2024) was apprenticed to Otto Hitzberger, former professor of the National College of Fine Art in Berlin, before moving to Ireland in 1951.
Major solo exhibitions and retrospectives include Dublin Castle (2024); Mary Immaculate College, Limerick (2023); RHA, Dublin (2010); Solomon Gallery, Dublin (2002); RHA, Dublin (2002). She also participated in RHA annual exhibitions numerous times and exhibited at the Irish Exhibition of Living Art from 1949 to 1991. Stuart was commissioned by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon to produce work for the touring school show ‘Tokens’ (1993).
Stuart was elected Saoi of Aosdana in 2015 and awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2018.
Her work is in the National Self-Portrait Collection in Limerick; University College Dublin; and The Arts Council /An Chomhairle Ealaíon among others.
