Hennessy, Patrick

Biography

Patrick Hennessy (b. Cork, Ireland, 1915 and d. 1980) studied at the Dundee College of Art and Hospitalfield Advanced Art College in Arbroath, Scotland.

He exhibited regularly at the RHA and had several solo shows including a retrospective at the Dublin Painters Gallery in 1951; a London show in 1956; and the Ritchie Hendriks Gallery in 1957. Recently Hennessy’s work has been included in the group shows, ‘The Politics of Memory’ Crawford Art Gallery (2011), ‘Hero With a Thousand Faces’, Crawford Art Gallery (2009), ‘Catching a Likeness – Portraits on Paper’ National Gallery of Ireland (2007).

Hennessy is represented in the public collections of Crawford Municipal Art Gallery; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin; Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA); National Gallery of Ireland; National Self-Portrait Collection of Ireland at the University of Limerick; and in the collections of University College Cork, University College Dublin as well as The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
