O'dowd, Gwen
Gwen O'Dowd (b. Dublin, Ireland, 1957) studied at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin and began exhibiting in the mid-1980s.
Solo exhibitions of her work have included Hamilton Gallery, Sligo (2011); Hillsboro Fine Art, Dublin (2010, 2007, 2004); Vangard Gallery, Cork (2008, 2005, 2003, 2001); and ART FIRST Contemporary Art, London (2001). Some important group exhibitions in which she has participated in include RHA Annual Exhibitions; ‘Poetic Land - Political Landscape’ which toured Britain and ‘Re-Dressing Cathleen’ contemporary works from Irish women artists and ‘Eire Land’ both at the Mc Mullen Museum of Art, Boston College in 1997 and 2003 respectively. She was commissioned by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon to produce work for the touring school show ‘A Special Place’ (1988).
O’Dowd is represented in the collections of The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and Northern Ireland; Irish Museum Of Modern Art (IMMA) and many other corporate collections, as well as in various private collections in Ireland, USA, Europe and Japan.
