Collins, Patrick

Patrick Collins b. in Dromore West, Co. Sligo 1911 and d. 1994, studied at National College of Art and Design, Dublin.

In 1987 Collins was the first artist to be honoured with the accolade Saoi by Aosdána in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the visual arts in Ireland. Posthumously Collins has been represented with a solo show at RHA (2011). A major retrospective of Collins’ work was held at Sligo Art Gallery (1985). He exhibited with the Irish Exhibition of Living Art and the Oireachtas regularly for just over 20 years (1950 onwards).

Collins’ work is included in the public collections of National Gallery of Ireland; Arts Council of Northern Ireland; Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin, among others.
