Mulcahy, Michael
Michael Mulcahy (b. Cork, Ireland, 1952) was educated at the Crawford Municipal School of Art in Cork and the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.
He first publicly exhibited paintings in Wexford in 1981. Since then solo exhibitions of his work have included the Irish Embassy in Brussels (2005); a body of work titled ‘The Stations of the Cross’ was exhibited at a disused convent at Portumna (2004); a two-person show with Suzy O’ Mullane at Cill Rialaig Gallery (2004); regular shows at Fendersky Gallery, Belfast (between 1995 and 2000); and a major solo presentation at the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (1994). He has exhibited a part of major group shows Oireachtas (1990); Irish Exhibition of living Art (1987); and SADE ’87 and ’82. Mulcahy was commissioned by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon to produce work for the first in a series of touring school shows entitled ‘The School Show’ (1986).
Mulcahy is among the collection of The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon. Other public collections containing his work include Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork; Ulster Museum, Belfast; Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, Dublin; and Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin.
