Biography
Patrick Pye (b.1929, d. 2018) was born in England and raised in Dublin. He studied at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin and was a founding member of Aosdána. The Royal Hibernian Academy exhibited ‘Triptychs and Icons’, a retrospective of his work, in 1997. Solo exhibitions included ‘Patrick Pye at Eighty’ Custom House Studios Gallery, Co. Mayo (2009); Jorgensen Fine Art; Dublin (2009); Norman Villa Gallery, Galway (2006); and Polish Art Historians Society, Cracow, Poland (1994). Commissions included an altarpiece, stained glass windows and roundels for a rebuilt church at Claddaghmore, Co. Armagh (1997-98); a crucifix for Our Lady of Lourdes church in Drogheda (1999); The Life of Our Lady, a six-panel painting on copper for the North Cathedral in Cork (1999); and The Transfiguration, a 10-foot wall hanging for St. Mary's Oratory at NUI Maynooth (2000). Pye was commissioned by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon to produce work for the touring school show ‘Heroes’ (1986).  His work is included in the collections of The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon; Crawford Art Gallery, Cork; St Thomas' University in St Paul (MN) and the Collection of Modern Religious Art at the Vatican Museums.
