Biography

Melanie le Brocquy (b. Dublin, Ireland, 1919. d. 2018) studied at the National College of Art & Design in Dublin, the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, and the Royal Hibernian Academy School of Art. 

The RHA, Dublin held a major retrospective of her work in 1999. She contributed to the Exhibition of Living Art (1943, 1965, 1967, 1971) as well as the Oireachtas Art Exhibition (1972-75) and eva International in Limerick (1984). She represented Ireland at the Salzburg Biennale in 1962. Solo exhibitions include the Bell Gallery, Belfast (1995, 1992); Taylor Galleries, Dublin (1991, 1986); and Austin Desmond Fine Arts, London (1990).

Her work is represented in the collections of The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; the National Self-Portrait Gallery, Limerick; in the AerRianta collection, St James' Hospital collection and in many private collections in Ireland, England, America and Canada.
