Cooke, Barrie

Barrie Cooke (b. 1931, d. 2014) was born in England but lived in Ireland from the mid-1950s onwards. He represented Ireland at the Paris Biennale in 1963, exhibited widely throughout Europe, the US and Canada, and was a member of member of Aosdána. Aside from the Arts Council Collection his work is represented in such collections as the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Stedelijk Museum and the Ulster Museum.

Barrie Cooke b. Cheshire, England, 1931 d. 2014, studied Art History at Harvard, Massachusetts.

Major retrospectives of Cooke’s work include the RHA, Dublin (1995), LAC, Perpignan, France (1995), Haags Gemeentemuseum, Netherlands (1992) and the Douglas Hyde Gallery (1986). Recent exhibitions include solo shows at IMMA (2011) and The Butler Gallery, Kilkenny (2009).

His work is represented in the collections of the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin; the Ulster Museum; the Stedelijk Museum and the Haags Gemeentemuseum, both in The Netherlands, among others.
